When starting out as an unsigned artist or band your mind turns to where to look for support and help on getting your sound together and getting your music out there. Enter The Door Youth Project. Nestled in the heart of Stroud, Gloucestershire, their work with young people across the board from behavioural to social issues is an incredible asset to the area. Music is at the heart of what they do from their in-house recording studio to annual talent show which has seen the likes of Nathan Sykes from The Wanted and Harry Jones from Smith & Jones crowned previous winners. Just moved premises they welcome anyone up to the age of 25 under their wing to benefit for free from their facilities.
In this mini radio documentary produced for BBC Introducing West I speak to Barrie Voyce from The Door Youth Project about the work they do, sit in on a tutor session while a pupil is making a grime track, and also hear from Smith & Jones who have recently appeared on The Voice and are actively involved with the charity.
